Winter Turning by: Tui T. Sutherland Submitted Zoe S.
Plot: Winter has been a disappointment to his family for his whole life. When he let his brother becomes imprisoned, o even killed by the Skywings, they finally had to send him away to a school far away called Jade Mountain Academy. When he hears that his brother may still be alive in the hands of the treacherous ex-queen Scarlet, Winter goes on a quest with some of his classmates to find his brother, and finally earn his family's approval.
Why Read? I really enjoyed this book! I found that it has been one of my favorites out of the entire series because of all of the plot twists and mysteries throughout the entire book, but if you have not read the books that come before it in the series then you would be lost. But I really enjoyed it, and there is never a dull page.

Shutout by: Brendan Halpin Submitted by: Angelina R.
Plot: This book is about two freshman girls one named Amanda and her best friend Lena. They were both anxious to start their first year of high school together, and to spend the whole yer with each other by their sides. Their dynamic dub duo for soccer is inseparable...well that might change While Lena becomes more popular in school and Amanda is just a girl in the background things begin to change. Amanda and Lena decide to try out for the school soccer team. Amanda has to deal with a very severe case of sever's disease, which is very bad pain in her heels which slows her down on the field. Amanda gets stuck being the goalie on the junior varsity team while her best friend Lena is now the center of attention for being on the varsity team. Can Lena and Amanda play soccer without each other?
Why Read? This book is worth reading because it teaches a lesson about friendship. It shows an example of the things that are included with having a friendship. IN addition it shows what it's like to be in high school. Not to scare you and say that high school is bad and the worse years of your life, it's the total opposite.
Comments: If you enjoy books about friendship or you like soccer I definitely recommend this book. Some may find it boring, while some will enjoy the book and learn off of it.

Very Good Lives by: J.K. Rowling Submitted by: Mrs. Boerlin
Plot: I was so excited to read a non-fiction book by J.K.Rowling. This is her speech she spoke to Harvard University graduates, and it is simplistic but powerful. She writes about how her parents wanted her to have a SAFE career, but she wanted to be a writer. She speaks about the power of a dream, and she encourages the Harvard students to embrace their possibilities. Why Read? This book is worth reading because it throws some light into the writing career of one of the world's best fantasy writers. Comments: This is a quick nonfiction read! |
