This year our In order to foster a life-long love of literacy, incoming seventh grade students have will read a book of their choice which has a corresponding Accelerated Reader quiz (books can be found on www.arbookfind.com). We believe that allowing learners to read a book of their choice promotes and retains interest in reading over the summer and helps students transition smoothly and quickly into the Accelerated Reading program upon their entry to Delsea Middle School in September. In cooperation with the 6th grade teachers in the sending districts, the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) or Star Reading Assessment (STAR) was given at the end of the current sixth grade school year. This will provide the students and their parents with the students’ reading range allowing them to choose their Accelerated Reading (AR) book accordingly.
Letters (see below) were sent home to parents with all pertinent information. In addition, students were oriented to Delsea’s Summer Reading Program in conjunction with the Accelerated Reader Program when they visited DMS at the end of the school year. Books were checked out of the DMS Media Center during their scheduled school visit. Books may also be checked out of one of the public libraries or checked out of the DMS Media Center on one of two open evening hours scheduled over the summer on Monday, July 12th and Thursday, August 12th from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Students may also choose to purchase the book of their choice and in so doing, have the added benefit of notating throughout the narrative as they read. Students will be required to take the Accelerated Reader quiz upon their return to school, which will count as their summer reading test grade. The Accelerated Reader Program will be reviewed during the August orientation. Please note: Students are not permitted to choose a summer reading book on which they have previously taken an AR test.
*Those students who are taking HONORS ELA are assigned Fever 1793. If students taking the HONORS ELA would like to read an additional summer reading book, they are welcome to do so however, they are not required to read a second book.

Your school email will be allow you to login to Destiny and MackinVIA digital books after July 1st. Look under MackinVIA in the bottom of the lefthand column to download the MackinVIA and Follett Destiny apps 
MackinVIA is where you will find free eBooks and audiobooks from DMS. Your school email will allow you to access the program after July 1st.
